This is a brand new find from Bob the Curator ~ This is extremely high quality Mahogany Obsidian ~ it is super reflective, many people like to gaze at the surface of obsidian, to see what images appear ~
This is a very large size. It is so hard to get a mahogany obsidian sphere this size ~ because, when a sphere is made, so much of the original material is lost in the polishing process, that they have to start with a piece of obsidian 10 times the size in order to create the sphere. It is a major process!

Mahogany Obsidian is semi precious gemstone material that is a deep black with blood red streaks.
The red coloration is likely the result of trapped hematite or iron. Mahogany Obsidian was probably named that because the reddish brown color is similar to the wood-mahogany.
Obsidian is a natural volcanic glass. This glassy, lustrous mineral is found in lava flows. Obsidian is produced when lava cools very quickly. The lava cools so quickly that no crystals can form.
Obsidian has been used since the stone age, and most Mahogany Obsidian locations were discovered by Native Americans. The natural glass is perfect for knapping and creating arrowheads. It has also been used to create mirrors.
